Costume Rental

I decided to look into renting a costume for Commander Brax and I found this great website that has a HUGE resource of space uniforms and suits.

Script Revisions, Details Emerge

After having several friends read through my script and offer some suggestions, I have finished the first re-write of the story.

As it stands, I've removed the clone, and focused more on the relationship between the Commander and M.A.C.U.

I've also added in some narration at the beginning, coming from the Commander, to explain a little more of the back story.

I've also renamed the Commander, as Commander Hudson Brax. It's a much stronger sounding name.

I also started to research his uniform and found a great website that sells some sweet looking overalls. I'm thinking about the grey suit with orange liners, more like the center most colors in the picture with three overalls. These are on http://www.workwearworld.co.uk. I'm going to try to work up a sketch if I have time.

I also added a virus called the Gorvada virus which has crippled almost 90% of the human population.

While Commander Brax is on Kelper 62e, he is searching for a possible cure because it is linked to an enzyme in desert plant life. Kepler 62e is abundant with this type of plant life.

I plan to go through the story one more time before I get someone else to read through it again.

Sketches of M.A.C.U.

After the casting session, I was inspired to work on getting an image for M.A.C.U. , the rover in my story.

I came up with some drawings to work with because I really wanted to see the machine now that I thought I had a voice for it. So I did some quick sketches and then drew them up in autoCAD.

Below is the result.

I also plan on working notes and details into the drawings, but for now, this is a good start.

Casting

The casting session for our Pre Production class was pretty good. I really liked the people I had read for "Desolate". Since it only has one actor and the voice for a rover, I didn't think it would be that hard. But it was.

I had the following people read for the character of the Commander:

Dan Fowlks

Trey Paterson

I had the following people read for the character of M.A.C.U.:

Melanie Camire

Isabel Crews

Cathy Ford

I really liked them all, but for the Commander, I noticed that Trey was playing around with an accent in the staging room and asked that he would try that with my script. When he did that, it sold me on the idea that I wanted to make the commander British. So I'm leaning towards his performance. I have always liked Dan's look, but I have to go with what I think is better for the character.

For M.A.C.U. I needed a voice over for a machine. But I didn't want it to sound to mechanical or too human either. All of the ladies did well, and each brought their own sound. But I had to choose one. So I narrowed it down to Cathy. As much as I liked the smoky sound of Melanie's voice and the clean diction of Isabel's, I think Cathy brought the image of M.A.C.U. to life in my mind.
